An In-Depth Review of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch C923 I have tasted my fair share of different brands and labels, but Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon from Heaven Hill holds a special place in my heart. This bold and flavorful bourbon is a staple in my liquor cabinet and is always a crowd-pleaser when I share it with friends. What sets Elijah Craig Barrel Proof apart is its unique way of releasing three different batches each year, labeled A (January), B (May), and C (September). I currently have the pleasure of sipping on my bottle of Batch C923, released in September of 2023. The depth and complexity of the flavors showcases the craftsmanship that goes into every batch of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon. As a barrel proof, bourbon enthusiast, I appreciate seeing an age statement on each release. This is the first release with an age statement over 12 years. This particular release is an amazing 13 years and 7 months old! This bourbon is uncut straight from the barrel with non-chill filtering, making it a raw and authentic experience. It is bourbon in its purest form. Having tried most of the releases, I can attest that I have never had a bottle I didn't enjoy. This particular barrel-proof edition has spent an impressive 13 years and 7 months aging in barrels, resulting in some exceptional flavors. The depth of character in this whiskey is truly remarkable. It's hard to say for sure, but many Elijah Craig fans are already calling this release their best yet. If you're lucky enough to get your hands on a bottle of this Heaven Hill product, be sure to savor every sip. Nose The nose of barrel proof C923 is fantastic and very inviting. The aroma is rich with sweet and sticky caramel, complete with hints of vanilla, dark chocolate, and sweet cereal notes. There's also a fruity undertone to it - plums, to be specific - which pairs perfectly with the rye. Every sniff feels like a journey through a complex and layered scent profile. Overall, it's a sensory treat. Palate When I first tasted Elijah Craig Barrel Proof batch C923, my taste buds were taken on a wild ride of flavor. The palate of this bourbon is packed with an intense array of complex notes that start with the sweetness of caramel, honey, and toffee, but quickly transition into more savory flavors like fried ice cream (sounds weird but it's fantastic). The deep richness of figs and dried plums comes through, followed by the distinct character of heavy rye and black pepper. As the taste journey continues, the presence of charred oak becomes evident, adding a depth and complexity that makes this bourbon exceptional. I couldn't get enough of the explosive palate of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof batch C923! Finish When it comes to describing the finish of C923, the first thing that I said was "I thought it would be longer". Don't get me wrong the finish is long. Though it wasn't quite as long as I expected, it still leaves a satisfying and lingering taste in your mouth. The mix of heavy rye and cinnamon is balanced out nicely with notes of vanilla and charred oak, making for a complex and flavorful finish. Overall, while I had hoped for a longer finish, it is still a quality addition to an already exceptional bourbon. Feel The mouthfeel is incredibly thick and chewy, with a viscosity that coats the whole mouth and lingers long after each sip. Despite its strength, it's surprisingly smooth and has a certain creaminess that's hard to find in other bourbons. The mouthfeel alone is a reason to give this particular batch of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof a try. Overall In conclusion, Elijah Craig C923 is more than just a bourbon - it's an experience. From its complex and explosive palate to its satisfying finish, every sip engages the senses, taking you on a journey through the art of bourbon crafting. Despite my initial expectation for a longer finish, I found myself captivated by the balanced mix of rye, cinnamon, vanilla, and charred oak. It's safe to say that this bourbon is truly exceptional in its class. I absolutely love this bottle from Heaven Hill and it's undoubtedly my favorite bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof to date. Thankfully I was able to get 2 bottles at retail. I'm sure this one is going to become scarce. I give this a Fool-Proof rating of 93%. Check out my review of Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel here. In-Depth Review of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is another great addition to Wild Turkey's renowned Russell's Reserve line. This exclusive bourbon pays tribute to Jimmy and Eddie Russell, the father-son duo who collectively have over a century of experience as master distillers at Wild Turkey. Bottled at a robust 110-proof, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel boasts a flavor profile that closely resembles barrel proof, thanks to Wild Turkey's relatively low barrel entry proof of 107 to 115. This sets it apart from other distilleries that typically opt for the maximum allowable entry proof of 125. This makes Wild Turkey's higher-proof bourbons more approachable. It is also non-chill filtered which helps preserve all the bold flavors. Although it lacks an age statement, the barrels selected for Russell's Reserve Single Barrel typically range from 8 to 10 years old. As is everything at Wild Turkey it is crafted using Wild Turkey's distinguished and only bourbon mash bill, maintaining the brand's revered tradition. I love these single-barrel expressions because they are always a little different, showcasing the unique characteristics of each barrel. It's always exciting opening a new bottle because it's usually a different experience each time and you can end up with some exceptional bottles. Nose The caramel stands out immediately, sweet and rich, followed closely by the heavy oak that brings depth to the aroma. The vanilla is subtle yet present, adding a layer of sweetness to the nose. As I continue to inhale, the black pepper comes through, bringing a bit of spice to the mix. There's also a hint of earthy tobacco. Finally, the orange zest adds a citrusy note that rounds out the nose. The nose alone is enough to make this whiskey a standout choice. Palate Upfront with Russell's Reserve Single Barrel, the first thing I noticed was the heavy rye spice on the palate. It was prominent, but not overpowering, and just the right amount to give it that extra kick. The caramel and vanilla flavors were also present, giving it a subtle sweetness that paired well with the pronounced rye. I picked up on some toffee and tobacco notes, which added a subtle smokiness to the overall taste. The black pepper and faint citrus notes were a nice touch, providing a nice compliment to the other flavors. Finally, the heavy oak finish gave it a satisfying and robust conclusion. Overall, the palate of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is complex and layered. Finish Russell's Reserve Single Barrel has a medium to long finish which allows the flavors to linger, giving your taste buds plenty of time to enjoy the complex notes. The vanilla and sweet cereal flavors are particularly pleasing, followed by a lot of rye spice. And of course, the aged oak brings everything together for a nice complex finish. Feel This wild turkey bourbon has a moderate viscosity and a very nice mouth coating. The feel really shines in comparison to the Russell's Reserve 10 year. Overall In conclusion, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel offers a captivating and complex journey. With its layered palate, lingering finish, and exceptional mouth feel, it effectively distinguishes itself from its 10-year-old counterpart. The intricate balance of sweet vanilla and cereal notes with the spicy kick of rye and the robustness of aged oak results in an experience that is both satisfying and memorable. Whether you're a seasoned bourbon drinker or a newcomer to the world of bourbons, this wild turkey bourbon is sure to provide an enriching tasting experience worth revisiting. I'm giving this bottle of Russell's Reserve a Fool-Proof Rating of 89%. Keep in mind that because this is a single-barrel product each experience can be different. In-Depth Review of Russell's Reserve 10 year Kentuck Straight Bourbon Whiskey Introducing Russell's Reserve 10 Year, a distinguished addition to Wild Turkey's renowned Russell's Reserve collection. Paying homage to the father-son duo, Jimmy Russell and Eddie Russell, master distillers with over 100 years of combined experience at Wild Turkey, this small-batch bourbon is crafted with care. Meticulously selected barrels, aged for at least a decade and potentially longer, contribute to the exceptional quality of Russell's Reserve 10 Year. Made from the Wild Turkey singular bourbon mash bill, this bourbon encapsulates the essence of the brand's craftsmanship and expertise. Russell's Reserve 10-Year-Old Bourbon was awarded the prestigious Double Gold Medal at the renowned San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011. It also received an impressive score of 92 points from the esteemed Beverage Testing Institute. Additionally, at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, it earned an exceptional score of 95 points, putting it on par with the renowned Pappy Van Winkle's 20-Year-Old Bourbon. Nose Russell's Reserve 10 year bourbon whiskey is a sensory experience to behold, with a nose that is distinctly robust and complex. The balance of sweetness and spice is a hallmark of the Russell's Reserve brand, and it's no different with this 10 year offering. As you take in the aroma, it's clear that this is a whiskey that has been crafted with care and attention to detail. Palate Russell's Reserve 10 year is a bourbon whiskey known for its rich palate and it doesn't disappoint. The combination of Caramel, vanilla, earthy tobacco flavors, black pepper, and aged oak provides a sophisticated blend of flavors that demonstrates the skill of the distillery's master blender. The notes of caramel and vanilla give a sweet richness, while the tobacco and black pepper add complexity and a slight spiciness. The aged oak flavors complete this well-rounded palate. Finish Russell's Reserve 10 Year is a bourbon with a medium-length finish with subtle vanilla notes that gradually give way to a more pronounced rye spice and aged oak flavor. With each sip, the interplay of these different notes creates a complex and nuanced experience that showcases the distiller's art. The finish in particular lingers on the tongue, leaving a pleasant and satisfying aftertaste. Feel This wild turkey bourbon has a moderate to thin viscosity. I think the fact that its 90 proof contributes to its thinner feal. I wish this was bottled at 100 proof. Overall In conclusion, Russell's Reserve 10 Year is an exceptional bourbon to drink neat and it stands out for its well-balanced and complex flavor profile. The combination of caramel, vanilla, earthy tobacco flavors, black pepper, and aged oak create a unique flavor experience for the senses. Having tried most of the releases, I can attest that I have never had a bottle I didn't enjoy. Not one to give up easily, I decided to wait a week and give this bottle of Elijah Craig another chance. Fortunately, the wait paid off, as the flavors became more distinct and well-balanced. Let's take a sip and explore the intricate flavors and nuances of this impressive bourbon. Nose The nose on Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is truly enjoyable. • Nulu Bourbon | Small Batch Nulu Toasted Barrel | Review of Batch IN1

Distillery: Sourced from MGP in Indiana Company: Prohibition Craft Spirits Proof: 115.4 (Nice!) Mash bill: Undisclosed, but has to be at least 51% corn, with rye and barley Age: 4-6 years (It drinks like a much more mature borbon) MSRP: $69.99 Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, and Affiliate Partner of other products discussed on my website I earn from qualifying purchases. They both are great for nosing and help in discerning more subtle notes. In-Depth Review of Nulu Toasted Barrel Bourbon Founded in 2016, Prohibition Craft Spirits has quickly gained a reputation for their private barrel picks and sourcing of quality barrels for bourbon clubs. Not to mention that they have an onsite distillery where they handcraft other craft spirits as well! In addition, Nulu Toasted Barrel is made with MGP bourbon (sourced) that is finished in toasted barrels, non-chill filtered, and then bottled at barrel proof - providing customers the full-bodied flavor and unique character only found by small batch whisky production. I really like what they are doing. I love that MGP just keeps pumping out unique and interesting whiskey. This particular bottle (IN1) is exclusive to Indiana, but they are doing other releases across the country. Nose The Nose of Nulu bourbon is very nice. As soon as it reaches your nostrils, you are hit with a sweet, caramel scent that immediately sets your taste buds tingling. Vanilla undertones follow shortly after, providing further depth to the aroma. But that's just the beginning. As you breathe deeper, the scent evolves, giving way to the rich, buttery smell of toffee, roasted nuts, and the distinct scent of toasted oak. It's a complex fragrance that warrants taking your time to fully appreciate. And while the notes of caramelized sugar and vanilla linger on the nose, a faint hint of ethanol serves as a gentle reminder that this is a 115.4 proof bourbon whiskey! Palate Nulu Toasted Barrel is a bourbon that provides a unique palate experience. The combination of vanilla and toffee at first sip is a delicious start, but it's the addition of toasted marshmallow, baking spices, and a hint of Red Hots candy that really sets this bourbon apart. A surprisingly interesting experience considering this is a blend of 4-6-year-old bourbon whiskey. I have seen some other reviews that have noted black coffee but I'm not getting that on this bottling. Finish The finish is reminiscent of campfires and s'mores, with a lingering flavor of toasted marshmallows and baking spices. The finish is long and warm with great viscosity and mouth coating. Nulu Bourbon Toasted Barrel offers a complex yet approachable taste that I really enjoyed! Overall Nulu Toasted Barrel is a 115.4 proof bourbon that offers a unique palate experience with the combination of vanilla, toffee, and marshmallow notes, as well as baking spices and a hint of Red Hots candy. The finish is reminiscent of campfires and s'mores, with a lingering flavor of toasted marshmallows and baking spices. It offers an interesting yet approachable taste that stands out from other bourbons. I have to reiterate that this drinks like a much more mature bourbon. If I didn't know better I probably would have guessed it was 8-9 years old. I am looking forward to trying more of their releases! Hopefully, they keep sourcing MGP bourbon. I don't typically love "craft" bourbon whiskey and I honestly did not expect to like this bourbon, but in the end, I really enjoyed doing this tasting! I give Nulu Bourbon Toasted Barrel a Fool-Proof Rating of 86%. For some great wheated broubon ideas check out my article on The Best Wheated Bourbons. What sets Kentucky Spirit apart is the personalized touch - every bottle is labeled with the barrel number, date, and warehouse number, allowing spirits connoisseurs to trace the history of their liquor back to the source. Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit is essentially honey barrels of Wild Turkey 101. What sets it apart is that it is a single-barrel variety that has been expertly aged for a minimum of 8 years, giving it a distinct flavor profile. This bourbon is not simply aged longer, but it is also hand-selected for its unique character and bottled in small batches, ensuring consistent quality. This Bourbon earned a score of 92 points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and earned a gold medal at the San Fransico World Spirits Competition in 2021. Wild Turkey's commitment to using a single mash bill for all their bourbons is a testament to their dedication to consistency and quality. The mash bill, which contains 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley, gives their bourbons a distinctive taste profile that can be enjoyed by whiskey enthusiasts all over the world. As someone who takes pride in exploring a variety of bourbons and whiskies, I appreciate Wild Turkey's unique approach to crafting its spirits. By relying on a singular mash bill, they have created a recognizable flavor that sets their bourbons apart from the rest. The bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Bourbon I am sampling comes from warehouse G, rick number 5, barrel number 2114, and was bottled on 01-05-2023. Nose I find myself drawn to the complex aroma profile of this particular bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Bourbon. The nose on this bottling is really inviting, starting with bold notes of rich caramel and smooth vanilla that are very enticing. As I enjoy the aroma, I detect subtle hints of cinnamon and freshly baked goods, which add a layer of complexity and depth to the experience. There is a subtle touch of toasted oak and a slight hint of orange peel that rounds out the nose perfectly. This is a unique and enjoyable nose. Palate The palate on this bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit is great. The first sip is a delightful combination of smooth vanilla, light caramel, and sweet honey notes. As the taste develops, the flavors shift to a bold and spicy mix of black pepper and tobacco, with just a hint of tangy citrus to balance it out. Each sip reveals new layers of complexity, providing a satisfying drinking experience. Finish As a lover of whiskey, I can confidently say that this bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit is one worth trying. The finish of this particular batch is one of the highlights for me, with a medium to long finish that lingers on the tongue. The rye spice is prominent, as well as the black pepper, giving it a nice kick that isn't too overpowering. However, what really stands out to me is the toasted oak flavor. It adds depth to the whiskey that is not only delicious but also satisfying. Feel This pour has a nice moderate viscosity to it with a nice mouth coating. Overall Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Bourbon is a unique spirit that stands out from the rest. The single mash bill provides an unmistakable flavor profile, and the hand-selected barrels ensure consistent quality. I found it to have an inviting nose with bold notes of caramel and vanilla along with hints of cinnamon and freshly baked goods. On the palate, this single barrel bourbon has a delightful combination of smooth vanilla, light caramel, sweet honey notes, black pepper, and tobacco flavors with just a hint of tangy citrus for balance. To round off my experience was its medium to long finish which lingered on my tongue with prominent rye spice balanced by toasted oak flavor - delicious! All in all this whiskey is definitely one worth trying if you're looking for something unique. Keep in mind that this is a single-barrel bourbon product and flavor profiles will vary. I have sampled several bottles and they have all been very good. With Wild Turkey Kentucky spirit you can be sure that you are getting a very good bottle of bourbon and sometimes they turn out to be great like this bottle. • Van Winkle 12 Year Lot B | Bourbon Whiskey Review

Distillery: Buffalo Trace/Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery Proof: 90.4 Mashbill: At least 51% corn, Wheat and Barley Age: 12 MSRP: $79.99 (LOL!) Good luck! They both are great for nosing and help in discerning more subtle notes. Van Winkle Bourbons pays homage to one of the whiskey industry's founding fathers. Their bourbons are made from a wheated bourbon recipe, meaning that the secondary ingredient used in the bourbon is wheat instead of rye (other bourbons, such as Larceny Bourbon, have similar mash bills). After the bourbon has been distilled in the heart of Kentucky, this Special Reserve Lot B bourbon is aged for 12 years and bottled at 45.2% ABV. This younger Van Winkle is elegant and refined, and compelling. I won the right to buy this particular bottle by being the 10th caller for a promotion that a local liquor store was doing. I actually paid the MSRP of $79.99 for this one! I was pretty excited to get into it. Lets see if it stacks up to all the hype! Nose The nose is definitely the best aspect of Van Winkle 12 year Lot B. This whiskey has an aroma that is truly a delight for your nose. It's like you've just stepped into a candy shop and the air is full of sweet, buttery, syrupy caramel, vanilla, cherry, and oak. I found myself lingering on the nosing part of this tasting, just to take in all the aromas this whiskey had to offer. The nose is remarkable and one that you won't forget. Palate On the front, the notes of sweet caramel, vanilla, and honey come alive on your tongue. The palate is smooth with a subtle edge of oak and orange zest to it. Each sip finishes off with baking spices, vanilla, and oak. For me, this is almost too smooth. I think that because of its lower proof it comes off a bit boring. Don't get me wrong this is a good pour. Also keep in mind that I really enjoy higher proof/barrel proof/cask strength whiskies so you may actually enjoy this a bit more than me. Finish The finish on this whiskey is medium length at best, with a nice balance of sweetness and spice. The oak flavor lingers with subtle hints of vanilla and caramel still there. It's nothing overly remarkable, but no doubt it is still a nice poor. Overall, I'd say the finish was decent but not quite what I wanted from this whiskey. It is incredibly smooth (smoothness is not a quality I like in my whiskey) and enjoyable, but lacks complexity. I would definitely recommend this to someone who likes a sweet, mellow whiskey without any strong, overpowering flavors. Feel The mouthfeel was also a bit disappointing. It provided minimal mouth coating and a lower viscosity than anticipated. Overall it felt a bit thin. I was hoping for a more full-bodied whiskey and this whiskey definitely did not deliver in that area. Final Thoughts While I found the whiskey enjoyable in its own right, it was not what I was hoping for. Although it is incredibly smooth with nice notes of sweet caramel vanilla and baking spice notes, it lacked complexity and the full-bodied sensation that I desired. Ultimately, this is a whiskey that is still very nice, but in my opinion, does not live up to the hype. Again if you like sweet, mellow whiskey that is incredibly easy to drink you may actually enjoy this one quite a bit more than me. This is still a fun bottle to own and garners lots of wide eyes when I pull it out of the bunker. Some of my friends like it much more than me and others feel the same way I do. They both are great for nosing and help in discerning more subtle notes. In-Depth Review of Blanton's Gold In 1984, Elmer T. Lee revolutionized the bourbon world by creating a single-barrel version named after former distillery president Colonel Blanton, who would often handpick special barrels from Warehouse H to share with others. Fast-forward decades later and you have one of the most established award-winning bourbons on the market - Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbons. Blanton's Gold Edition is a single-barrel bourbon produced by the Buffalo Trace Distillery. The secret lies in the proprietary sour Mash Bill #2 used in its production, which uses a high rye ratio (12%-15%). This same mash bill is used by Buffalo Trace for all of Blanton's products, Elmer T. Lee and Rock Hill Farms as well as a few others. This particular mash bill gives the bourbon a distinct and slightly spicy flavor profile that sets it apart from other bourbons. The Buffalo Trace Distillery is known for its attention to detail and craftsmanship, which is reflected in the quality of Blanton's Gold Edition. Blanton's Single Barrel Gold Edition takes everything that is good about the original Blanton's Bourbon and just makes it better! With a 103-proof rating, this limited edition spirit is highly sought-after among connoisseurs everywhere for its robust flavor profile that definitely impressed me. Blanton's Bourbon is a solid choice for any bourbon drinker, but if you're looking for something truly special, the Gold Edition is where it's at. As someone who has tried the original and found it a bit lacking in terms of flavor and excitement, I can honestly say that the Gold Edition blew me away. The balance of flavors is remarkable, with tasting notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak all present in perfect harmony. While I'm not here to push you towards any particular brand, I would highly recommend giving this one a try if you're a fan of bourbon. This is one of those bourbons that had me saying "Man, this stuff is just good"! This bottle of Blantons Gold single barrel bourbon from the Buffalo Trace Distillery was taken from warehouse H, rick number 8, barrel number 165, and was dumbed 2-27-2023. Nose As a whiskey enthusiast, I have had my fair share of experiences with different blends and brands. Blanton's Gold single barrel bourbon is a standout for me, especially when it comes to its nose. On the first inhale, the scent is incredibly inviting. It's a complex mix of vanilla, fresh pancakes, light caramel, dark fruit, and even a faint hint of pipe tobacco notes. It's no wonder that the nose of this bourbon has become its signature feature. It's a beautifully balanced bouquet that promises a warm and smooth drinking experience. Spoiler alert...it delivers on that promise! Palate I was thoroughly impressed by the flavor profile of this Gold Edition. The palate truly delivers on the nose's promise, showcasing a spectrum of flavors that dance across your taste buds. The vanilla and rye spice make a bold entrance and are quickly succeeded by the gentle sweetness of raw honey and light caramel. As the bourbon continues to linger on the tongue, dried fruits, nutmeg, and oak notes become more pronounced, adding a delightful complexity to the experience. It's no wonder why this iteration of Blantons has garnered such a devoted following among bourbon enthusiasts - the taste is truly remarkable. "Man, this stuff is good"! Finish After tasting Blanton's Gold Label, I couldn't help but appreciate the interesting finish that followed. It wasn't too short or too long, but just the right length. As the flavors dissipated, I could taste the light honey, rye, and oak. What really stood out to me was how nicely the flavors came together in the end. The oak gave it a certain depth while the raw honey added sweetness, and the rye added a bit of spice. All in all, I felt like I had just experienced a well-balanced and expertly crafted whiskey with Blanton's Gold Edition. Feel It has a moderately viscous feel with a nice, warm mouth coating. Overall Blanton's Gold is a fantastic bourbon that has managed to elevate the brand's Blanton's Original Single Barrel flavor profile to an entirely new level. From the moment I took my first sip, I knew that I was in for a treat. The whiskey is exceptionally balanced, with just the right amount of sweetness and a great finish that leaves you wanting more. What really sets this bottle of Blanton's apart from other bourbons is the fact that it's just plain fun to drink. As someone who takes pride in my ability to spot quality spirits, I have to say that Blanton's Gold Edition impressed me. Throughout the entire tasting I could not stop saying "Man, this stuff is good"! This is a honey barrel for sure and would be a great bourbon for a special occasion. Other Buffalo Trace bourbons that use the same proprietary sour mash bill #2 as Blanton's Gold Edition include Blanton's Single Barrel, Blanton's Straight From The Barrel, Rock Hill Farms, and Elmer T. Lee. I'm giving this a Fool-Proof Rating of 92%. I would like to thank my friend Jared for providing me with this fantastic pour! Check out my review of Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel here. • Does Whiskey Go Bad? | Prevent Oxidation With This Simple and Inexpensive Step

Have you ever wondered what happens to an open bottle of whiskey? Does it go bad? Can it oxidize and change in flavor profile over time? The answer is yes, but there are ways to preserve your whiskey for years. Let’s explore the science behind whiskey oxidation and how the Private Reserve Wine and Whiskey Preservation System can help keep your whiskey fresh. What is Whiskey Oxidation? Whiskey oxidation is a natural process that occurs when a bottle of whiskey is exposed to oxygen. When oxygen interacts with alcohol molecules, they convert into acetic acid, which has a sour taste. This process can happen even if the bottle of whiskey is stored in a cool dark place; however, the process will occur more quickly depending on several factors such as temperature and sunlight exposure. The less liquid in the bottle, the more quickly it will oxidize due to increased air exposure. The Private Reserve System So how do you prevent your favorite whisky from going bad? The Private Reserve Wine and Whiskey Preservation System is an innovative way to preserve opened bottles of spirits for years! It works by spraying a unique combination of argon, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen - three gases known as ‘inert’ or non-toxic - into your opened bottle of spirit. This creates an invisible blanket of gas over the top layer of liquid that prevents oxygen from interacting with any alcohol molecules at all! It’s tasteless, non-volatile, and medical grade so you don't have to worry about any adverse effects when using this system. The Benefits of Using the Private Reserve System Using the Private Reserve Wine and Whiskey Preservation System can help you save money by preserving opened bottles for longer than traditional storage methods allow. You don't need to worry about throwing out half-finished bottles anymore - just spray some inert gas on top and you're good to go! Additionally, because it prevents oxidation from occurring, it helps maintain flavor profiles for longer periods of time so that each sip tastes like you just opened up the bottle. Finally, because no outside particles are entering the bottle due to this preservation method, foreign flavors won't be introduced over time either! For those who love their whisky but hate wasting money on unfinished bottles – or simply want their whisky tasting like it did when first opened – investing in a Private Reserve Wine and Whisky Preservation System may be worth considering. This system provides an affordable solution that preserves quality while saving money in the long run. By creating an invisible blanket over your whisky with inert gases, this system keeps oxidation away while maintaining flavor profiles for longer periods of time without introducing foreign flavors into your drink either! I have some expensive bottles that I only bring out for special occasions and use this product personally. It really does work and lets you open those special bottles that you may have been reluctant to open. In-Depth Review of Blue Run High Rye Bourbon A group of friends who love their bourbon decided to try and change the whiskey industry. Armed with a Nike designer, Facebook's very first director-level employee, an experienced hospitality executive, a political advisor, and philanthropist – plus Master Distiller Jim Rutledge (previously of Four Roses distillery) as the "liquid director" (with over 50 years experience in whisky!) – Blue Run Spirits was born. This team is creating some remarkable products for today’s modern whisky fan! I'm looking forward to what they are going do to next. Blue Run High Rye Bourbon is a small batch whiskey, blended from 232 barrels. This is bottle 2618 from batch number 2. Check out my review of Blue Run Golden Rye Whiskey here. Nose Despite not being overly complex, the nose of Blue Run High Rye Bourbon is inviting! I'm hit with the unmistakable aroma of rye spice, toffee, and oak that all blend together well. There's something very comforting about it's nose. I'm hoping for a little more on the palate. Palate The first thing that comes to your palate is a mix of baking spices and sweet caramel. Then, there are hints of dill and even some citrusy notes that add some complexity. Finally, it's all rounded out with a nice oak flavor. Seems to be more mellow than the 111 proof would imply. Finish The finish definitely isn't the longest finish, but it does have great flavor. I would say it's a moderate to long finish. I get notes of dark fruit/stone fruit, cinnamon, and black pepper that give it a unique flavor. It lingers for a nice amount of time on the palate, but not quite long enough - I wish the finish was a bit longer! Despite this, I still think it's a very good whiskey with lots of great complexities to unpack. Feel This bourbon has a moderate mouth-coat but the mouthfeel itself is surprisingly thinner than expected. Final Thoughts Overall, this is a great whiskey, from Jime Rutledge, that offers an inviting aroma of rye spice and toffee. Its palate features spice and sweet caramel notes while its finish has hints of dark fruit, cinnamon, and black pepper. Despite the moderate mouth coat, it surprisingly has a thinner-than-expected mouthfeel which may indicate it is younger than 7 years old. Nevertheless, this bourbon packs lots of complexity into each sip making for an enjoyable experience! Check out my review of Blue Run Golden Rye whiskey. They both are great for nosing and help in discerning more subtle notes. In-Depth Review of Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel | Heaven Hill After the American victory in the Revolutionary War, pioneering folks were eager to explore new lands west of Appalachia. Virginia sweetened the deal by offering "corn writs" which granted them 60 acres a piece if they agreed to settle and start growing corn. Enter Elijah Craig - a Baptist minister who took that opportunity with both hands when he migrated to Fayette County (now part of Kentucky) securing 1,000 acres in a town named Lebanon. Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a tribute to the Father of Bourbon, Elijah Craig. This unique whiskey has gone through an extra step for added complexity - it's twice barreled. After its initial barrel aging, this bourbon spends time in custom-toasted new oak barrels where it gains a sweeter flavor from the wood and becomes even better than before. Nose Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon has a fantastic and inviting nose. It boasts warm aromas of buttery caramel and vanilla that can make you feel welcomed. There is also a hint of smokiness that almost rivals the sweet notes of apple pie, creating a unique experience for the senses. Not many bourbons can delicately combine these scents with as much grace as Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon. I love the nose. Palate The first thing I noticed when tasting Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon was its buttery texture; it wasn't too overwhelming, just enough to coat my tongue. The sweet caramel, vanilla, apple pie, and light smoke flavors were all discernible which created an interesting profile. I thought it could have been more intense but it still had an enjoyable taste and held its own regardless. I also noticed a subtle dryness that deducts from the palate a bit for me. Finish The finish on this small batch Elijah Craig bourbon is moderate in length, which gives you just the right amount of time to appreciate its delicate nuances. I picked up some subtle rye notes along with baking spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, followed by a lingering toasted oak at the end - it was really enjoyable. Again the finish is slightly dry and does take away from the overall experience. Feel Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel has a medium mouth-coating sensation and an extremely buttery texture. Overall With Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel, Heaven Hill has created a winner in my book. The first thing that hits you is its unique nose - The custom toasted charred oak barrels add sweetness and complexity. The nose is more inviting than most and it stands out. I would say the dryness on the palate and the finish were two slight disappointments, but overall I think this whisky is worth picking up if you can find it. It certainly ends as gracefully as it starts so even with these minor drawbacks, it still is well-rounded, and I enjoyed it! In my area, this one is usually allocated and hard to find at the store.
